Strawberry Shortcake

One of the best things about late April is the beginning of strawberry season.  The berries are ripe and juicy and cheap!  The perfect time of the year to start indulging in strawberry desserts.  I was charged with bringing a little something special for the family Easter dinner this year, and strawberries and cream were on my mind.

Paula Dean never lets me down with her recipes.  This one is super easy to make and got excellent reviews.  It calls for store bought angel food cake, but I made one from scratch (from a box mix) because it was just as easy, and a bit fresher.


This should be assembled a few hours before you want to serve it.  The flavors need a chance to meld together.  It is a sweet and light dessert, perfect for the hot months ahead.  Enjoy!
