This is Kind of Embarrassing

Do you have any embarrassing pictures?  I do.  I thought I would share one with you today.  You're welcome.

Back when I was in high school (in the early 90's....gasp), Glamour Shots was the fun thing to do.  In a nutshell, they would do your hair and makeup and let you pick out "fun" outfits.  Then you would sit for a photo session.  They would clean up your pictures (read: Photoshop, before regular people had it) and charge you a ridiculous amount of money to purchase them.

Naturally, one of my best friends and I saved up some money and made an appointment.  We were 17 years old, and $140 was a big deal.  We took some of our pictures together (I believe there was kind of a biker theme that involved bustiers and leather).  Then we got to pick our individual looks.  I choose a red dress and pearls (and some big hair, obviously).  It was 1993.

I just looked up Glamour Shots to see if they are still around, and I was surprised to see that they are (even the location at the Sawgrass Mills Mall, where I had mine taken).  It does appear that have toned down the looks a little bit.  Now they ask you to bring your own outfits and take family portraits.  I guess you have to change with the times.

Do you have a Glamour Shot (or other equally embarrassing pictures from your teenage years) that you would like to share?  I would love to see them (and I am pretty sure my readers would too).  If you do a post on yours, I will plug it over here.  Spread the love!

i remember taking something similar w my friends in hs. it wasn't as "glamorous" as Glamour Shots but they let u pick a cheesy background & made u & your friends pose in the cheesiest poses imaginable. i think i still have some evidence lying in a box somewhere hahaha ohhh to be young again! i still wonder why my friends & i thought it was a good idea to go take them!

every pic of me is awkward! ah, glamour shots...they were big down here with girls rocking a cowgirl hat. i didn't get it!

PS--I roll my hair on the sides so i can sleep on my back and it doesn't hurt. i also will put my hair in a bun/buns for a similar effect.

You look great in this picture! All of my teen shots are filled with acne, frizzy hair and general awkwardness.

That picture is so cute!!! But I do cringe when I think of the glamour shots I took back in middle school with my best friend at the time. Thinking back, those places WERE kinda over the top! xo

Oh my gosh, this is amazing! I always passed on these as a teenager because, you know, they were a massive rip off. Now I'm regretting it though! Look how sweet and funny they are!

When you started off by saying 'embarrassing photos' I was thinking more on the lines of... embarrassing outfit with an embarrassing cheesy face hahaha. Um, NOT! This is really stunning actually.

Haha unfortunately I'm still in high school and so maybe if I do have the time I'll try this out ;)

PS- in response to your comment on my blog, if you click on the thing link, you have to click it again on the white page but anyway, she's impersonating me and pretending to use my pictures as herself. Not okay with that.

Erin this is SO awesome! I certainly do remember glamour shots and they were in the mall near my parent's house. Sadly, I never had this done but really wanted to because I thought it was SO awesome to look like a celebrity! What I didn't know was that glamour shots only did waist up tops. In taiwan their form of glamour shots are the whole 9 yards, outfits, background, scenery... Sadly I've never had that done but would love it. You look beautiful, even if it was in the early 90s, this is very ala julia roberts pretty woman :)

I hope you've had a wonderful weekend!

Nope, no glamour shots, but plenty of fairly embarrassing pictures. Luckily there's only one copy of each in existence, and they are all in Sardinia, buried somewhere at the bottom of a drawer in my parent's apartment :-)
