I am a sucker for a good burger and fries joint. One recent Saturday, I dragged my husband to Digger's, a local suburban hotspot that I had been hearing fantastic things about. The place is named after Digger Dave, a gravedigger from a local cemetery who opened the restaurant in the early 90's. Burgers and breakfast are the specialties here, along with a vast selection of milkshakes. The decor was quirky and fun, while the food was delicious.
The restaurant itself is unassuming, inside a strip mall. They are closed on Sundays (which we found out the first time we ventured here). We made a note to come back on a Saturday, and I went home and started stalking the menu online. I wanted to be prepared. There were so many options (and I get indecisive under pressure).
The first thing you notice on the inside, is the walls are covered in art that depicts the great diner's of the 50's. Apparently the waitresses of yore had cartoonishly large breasts and a couple of ribs removed towards the waist. Probably made it easier to balance the tray while rollerskating.
Also, there is a lot of logo art.
The menu covers all of the basics that a person could possibly want for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Husband went for onion rings and a plain bacon cheeseburger. He doesn't do condiments.
I really wanted to try the curly chili cheese fries. It was not an easy decision to make, since they have 15 varieties on the menu. I wanted garlic. I wanted cheese. I wanted pretty much everything on the menu.
I had the BBQ bacon cheeseburger with everything on it. What can I say, go big or go home.
You are probably looking at this thinking, wow, that is a lot of food. Surely you were eating with other people. Unfortunately, it was just the two of us. There were a lot of leftovers. We left with full belly and big smiles on our faces. I am already considering my fry choice for our next visit.

That looks like a fun place!
love it. this sounds like a place that would be on diners, drive-ins and dives.
That looks awesome. My fiancé is a huge diner guy, me not so much. We went to a diner that was featured on Diners, Drive ins and Dives. We ate so much. I'm still stuffed.
Your cheese fries looked sooooo good. That's how I would have eaten them too! And my hubby doesn't do condiments either:)
Yum, looks pretty awesome. I really like their menu design too!
YUM! I love a good burger! I wish we had met when we still lived in Walnut Creek, so we could have dinner together. Boo hoooooo :(
OH man that burger looks really good Erin. If it makes you feel any better....taking restaurants at fancy restaurants is super awkward. I once did it at Nomi inside the park hyatt hotel...I think my friends wanted to claim I was a foreign visitor..haha!
