Let's Pretend This Never Happened

I am going to start this book review off by saying that I love The Bloggess (Jenny Lawson).  If you haven't ever stopped by her blog, you definitely want to check it out.  She has been doing this forever and is a very funny and talented writer.

I knew I would love Jenny's book the minute I heard about it.  It contains short (somewhat horrifying, awkward, or embarrassing) stories from her life that helped make her the person she is today.  She has kind of a rambling style of writing, so be prepared to go off on a tangent or six..  Also, if cursing offends you, skip this book.  You will be offended.  If not, read on.

Jenny grew up in the very small town of Wall, Texas, with her mother and taxidermist father.  She had an unusual upbringing, surrounded by animals both living and stuffed, which serve as the basis for a lot of her stories in the book.  She is very quirky.  Here are some of the descriptive chapter titles that give you some insight as to what you are about to read: "It Wasn't Even My Crack", "My Vagina Is Fine, Thanks For Asking", and "If You Need An Arm Condom, It Might Be Time to Reevaluate Some of Your Life Choices".   I know what you are thinking, you just got sucked right in.  I haven't even mentioned her ever patient husband, who seems to add a little sanity to these zany (yet real) stories.

I would give this book 4 1/2 stars out of 5.  You will laugh your way uncontrollably through this book.  Jenny knows how and when to drop the f-bomb, and does so frequently and with style (I think we could all learn a few things from her).   I recommend reading this alone, because you will not have an easy time explaining these little anecdotes to others who will inevitably want to know what is so funny.  If you have read this book, can we please discuss Beyonce the Giant Metal Chicken?

Next up, Fifty Shades of Grey.  Yeah, again, I know what you are thinking, but although the writing is pretty bad, the story is oh so entertaining.  However, I do listen to these books in the car, and the woman who reads them is kind of awful.  I am somehow managing to struggle through:)  I am a real trooper.  What are you reading right now?

I saw the 50 Shades of Grey books at my local library. I was thinking of borrowing them but I remembered the bad reviews on Amazon. Perhaps I should get them anyway just to satiate my curiosity.

Haha. That sounds like a fun book but not the type I generally read. As for 50 Shades, it's interesting but not at the same time. I've glanced through it a few times and if I were in the mood to read something raunchy, that is not the first thing I'd go for.

I am about to start Hitchhiker's Guide!

I should be ashamed - but I am currently not reading anything. However I do plan on heading over to the Bloggess to check her out.

Hi, I'm Erin. I am living back on the east coast after 15 years out west. Currently readjusting to humidity and mosquitos. I love to take pictures and read fashion magazines.... and to talk about nothing in particular (ok, and my dogs).
