A Little Labor Day Weekend Boating

I hope everyone had an amazing Labor Day weekend.  It is back to work for me tomorrow, but I have had a very fun and productive weekend.  Our friends Mike and Katie (Matie) moved their boat from the Oakland Estuary to the Sacramento River Delta, and we had a fun time fishing and checking out the local town.  I am going to be so sad when the weather starts getting cooler, because I can never seem to get my fill of boating, especially with our amazing friends.

I loved how this mechanical bridge was on a swivel, instead of rising straight up.

Not a lot of clearance when you are on a boat.

Me below deck, trying to appear on my blog more often.  It was cold in the morning hours (and stifling later on).  I always try to keep my hair up when on the boat, (here it is in a milkmaid style braid) so it doesn't get completely knotted.  Anyone have any hair secrets for me here?

A clear view of the delta.

I was enamored with a flock of birds overhead.

Pulling into our port, Walnut Grove, CA.  No, I had never heard of it until we got there.

We try to look professional.

Apparently, Walnut Grove is famous for its super-tall radio and tv towers.  You can see them from miles away.

How cute is the post office?

I discovered the sweetest little gift shop on the main drag, where I did a little shopping.  I bought an adorable little crystal necklace and some guides for boating on the delta.  I especially loved our fish identification chart.  Who knew there were goldfish in the river?

We stopped for lunch at a local restaurant.  I tried on my Tooncam app on Matie.  Katie was explaining something very important at the time.  I forget what, but I know the hand gestures were critical.

ETA:  Husband reminded me that she was explaining alligator claws (they were on the menu).
Lunch at Maya's was excellent.  We did a little shopping there too.

After lunch comes dessert.  Nothing feels better than ice cream on a sweltering day.

I originally took this picture because I liked the signs.  The cashier told us about a group of local ladies that have been lunching at this spot forever.  The day the purple lace was hung, they decided that this shop resembled a whore house.  I kind of liked it.  I am not sure what that says about my taste.

We came across this dilapidated looking marina a little further along the delta.  Rumor has it that it is pretty plush inside.  I am going to need to see it for myself.

How did you spend your Labor Day weekend?  Are you mourning the end of summer or looking forward to embracing fall?  Lastly, do you call it fall or autumn?

Oh that bridge is so cool, I've never seen one that operates like that. Looks like you had a wonderful day on the water

Looks like such a fun weekend! I haven't got the opportunity to go boating very much, but the times I've gone were really fun! That town looks so cute - I agree about the Post Office being adorable. :)

So fun! Would you believe me if I said we didn't go to a pool, lake, pond, ocean or ANY body of water at all this summer?! So sad. You may or may not already know this, but I'm SO ready for Fall. Just a time of newness is good for me :)

I lived in Sac for a year and Davis for three years and I've never been to Walnut Grove! Looks like a great little boating town.

Glad you enjoyed your labor day weekend. Boating sounds fun. Wish we had a clean coast here by Texas.

Hi, I'm Erin. I am living back on the east coast after 15 years out west. Currently readjusting to humidity and mosquitos. I love to take pictures and read fashion magazines.... and to talk about nothing in particular (ok, and my dogs).
