Community service is a part of my yearly work goals. My company encourages it (and gives us time to do it). Every year I participate in the Heart Walk, which is sponsored by the company I work for (and several others). It is always held on a warm September day (which is Oakland, means it was at least 70 degrees). The walk is 3.1 miles around
Lake Merritt, and it is a great opportunity to get up and away from my desk, as well as to get some fresh air and exercise. Here are some highlights from around the lake.

Everyone gathers at Snow Park.

Bottles of water are a necessity. |

All funds raised for the Heart Walk go to the American Heart Association. |

One of many sobering reminders placed around the lake to remind us of why we are walking. |

A view across the lake. Unfortunately, it looks better than it smells. |

Nice pictures, Erin!
Have a lovely weekend!
xoxoxo
Aww, did you give the mascot a big hug? Or run away instead?
Wait, do you live in Oakland? I'm not sure I knew this. Justin is a HUGE Raiders fan {which is weird for a Jersey boy living in Indiana...} and has ALWAYS wanted to go to Oakland!
That's so great that your company encourages this Erin, it's such a lovely initiative xo
What a great cause, and how awesome that your company encourages participation!
That's great that your company encourages that!! I usually don't walk around those areas, so all these pictures are pretty new to me!
This is a reason why I'm such a fan of your blog. Beautiful photos of the area. Love the shot of 'view across the lake' and the gorgeous cathedral.
