While my cousin was in town, we spent a lot of time at
Pier 39, otherwise known as Fisherman's Wharf. The first time we visited was on the Thursday before Fleet Week started, when a lot of the planes were flying practice runs. It was a great way to beat the crowds and still see some awesomesauce aerobatics. Of course, the most popular attraction is the sea lions. Here is a mini-tour.

They just want to make sure you know when you have arrived. |
Sometimes, huge cruise ships dock at a nearby pier. This one seemed to be here to watch Fleet Week. |
You can see the Golden Gate Bridge through the fog in the background. The restaurant with the lighthouse is Forbes Island, and it floats. I haven't even been there, but you have to take a short boat ride to get there, so I am curious. If you have ever been, I would love to hear your thoughts. |
A view of the city from the Pier. |
Of course, there is a carousel for the kiddies (young and old). |
A Blue Angel practicing for the air show. |
Here comes another one. |
The Wharf is full of stores, attractions, and restaurants, all with great views on the Bay. You can find a listing of things to do here. |
A view of the wharf, looking out towards Coit Tower and the Transamerica Pyramid. |
The main attraction is definitely the sea lions. You can hear and smell them before you can actually see them. |
Strike a pose. |
If you are curious, you can watch the sea lions any time of day on the
live webcam.
