This was a beautiful book. That was the first thing that came to mind when I tried to describe the feelings I had after reading it. The characters were likable and the story so relatable. You knew these kids when you were in high school. You understood their pain. When it was all over, I was emotionally invested. I wanted more.

This is a coming of age story that captures teenage angst perfectly. It takes place in a high school in the early 90's (coincidentally, the same time yours truly attended). The story is told via letters that the main character "Charlie" writes to an unknown person. Each letter details recent events in Charlie's life: drugs, first kisses, first loves, domestic violence, and growing up. Charlie also shares his love of music, movies and and books, many of which I had to look for on You Tube and add to my reading list (If you are interested, you can find Charlie's lists here).
Overall, I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars. It is an easy read, and the story is engrossing. If you are a fan of young adult fiction (and don't mind a heavy story), this should definitely be on your short list. Next up, Gone Girl and The Carrie Diaries (at the same time).
Have you read the book or seen the movie? What are you reading now? I am always looking for my NEXT next book.
