It was our turn to host Thanksgiving this year. Of course, a few days before, I got sick. I held it together for Thanksgiving, and then it all fell apart. My cold morphed into the stomach flu, which was not pretty. I spent my entire vacation sick in bed, but I am still so happy that we pulled off Thanksgiving before it all went bad. Here are some pictures from last Thursday.
I found really cool place cards at Party City. I loved them because 1) I think honeycomb paper is way cool 2) They were disposable, which means I didn't have to store them after the day was over and 3) They were Thanksgiving specific.
You'll notice that I did black out the names on the cards to protect the innocent.
We had to put two tables together to accommodate everyone, but here is a shot of one of the tables already set. I went with vinyl table clothes and paper napkins from Party City, both Thanksgiving themed. I haven't fully committed to cloth napkins and table cloths yet, but maybe one day. (Notice the porkie in the background?)
I don't have a lot of Thanksgiving decor around the house, but I do have a few things.
My Pottery Barn turkey on the right is my most prized Thanksgiving possession.
All of the prep work was stressful for the dogs.
They sought refuge in the sunlight.
What would the holidays be without champagne (with toppers)?
Here is the progress of our turkey. We were really excited to cook a free range organic bird this year. Unfortunately, I can't really vouch for how it tasted. I was too stuffed up (but it looked great).
My favorite homemade
cranberry pear sauce recipe in the world. My husband took over making it this year. I figured people probably wouldn't want me touching their food.
Just another shot of the table. Can you tell I was excited about hosting for the first time?
I even decorated my chandelier.
I found these really cool pilgrim candles at Party City that I was kind of obsessed with. (This post is no in any way affiliated with Party City, although I can see how you might think so)
My niece Sophia, Meatball, and Petunia
It was fun watching the candles melt. In case you were wondering, the male candle disintegrated long before the female.
Petunia got a little bit spastic with a room full of people to play with.
My niece Nola is finally walking, which means she is interacting with the dogs a bit more. Also, it made me realize just how not baby-proofed my house is. Babies really get into everything, don't they:)
Well, that is a wrap. I hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving! I can't wait to catch up with you.
