My So-Called Instagram Life

I found this card at Bed, Bath & Beyond, and it looked so much like Harriet I had to have it.  I also picked up a few goodies to try out.

Testing out our fog machine for Halloween night.

A preview of my yard, featuring Zelda the zombie flamingo.

Look out, behind you!!!!!

This is how Vader (and Yoda) started out.  Just a craft pumpkin and some stabby-ended plastic pieces.

Just because.

Petunia sleeps where she pleases.

She will snuggle anything, including my purse.

One of my favorite new additions this year.  Welcome to the torture chamber.

Your favorite is back!!!

The house down the street is making the most incredible display of autumn.  I am in complete awe of this tree.

My Halloween Mantle & Decor Updates

Hi Everyone! I wanted to show you some of the Halloween decor updates I made this year to the inside of our house.  This is a little picture heavy, but please make sure you scroll down to the end if you want to see the video I made showcasing my Halloween mantle.  I really like the way it turned out this year, but it doesn't photograph well.

Here is the mantle from both angles.  The video at the end of this post gives you a close-up view in detail.

I found this light up jack-o-lantern on the Collections Etc. website for $8.99, which was a steal (it doesn't seem to be there anymore).  I love that the objects in the tree branches light up, as well as the pumpkin itself.

I found this gem at Pier One for 50% off.

We used craft pumpkins from Target to make these permanent.

I found this jar at Orchard Supply Hardware, and filled it with chocolate eyeballs from Target.

Tiny and spooky, they both light up and make creepy sounds when squeezed ( clown and zombie from Spirit Halloween).

The pumpkin with the cat and the witch's shoe were $5 together at CVS.  You really can find cute decor in unexpected places (and for great prices).

The creepy monkey on the left is from Spirit Halloween, and squawks while banging the symbols together when activated (see demo here).

Another Pier One, 50% off purchase.

I have had the pirate for years, but the shaker and flask were Target finds this year.

I really good friend sent me this Vader pug card for Halloween, and it will probably become a part of my permanent decor.

I filled up my monster bowl with eyeball gumballs from Target.

Here is the vlog I made showing my mantle in more detail. I am also working on one for my outside decor.  I would love to hear if you liked seeing it this way.

Is your house ready for trick-or-treaters?  Leave me a link if you do a post on your Halloween prep.  I would love to take a peek.

Highland Cows

It is not really a secret that I am a bit of an animal lover.  So when our bus driver pulled over to the side of the road in the middle of the Scottish Highlands, and these giant red cows were just standing there, I might have squealed.  I couldn't get off of the bus quickly enough, and I might have even tripped over my husband trying to get to the cows first.  What can I say?  Sometimes we forget we are in public.

These are highland cows, and I believe their pictures speak for themselves.  If I could have packed one into my suitcase, I would have.  Instead I settled for feeding them a few handfulls of grass and getting slobbered on.  Kind of like living with a 1000 lb Meatball.

Halloween Decor 2013 (Inside)

I love Halloween (and if you are a regular reader, you already know this).   We usually start checking out the stores in September, looking for new inspiration.  While I like to decorate the outside of my house to be a bit frightening, I tend to go for more cutesy things (with a mix of the horrific) on the inside.  My favorite stores to shop are Spirit Halloween, Pier One, and Target.  These are a few of the things I have been scoping out this year.  I already have a few of them (want to take a guess?).  I will be doing my Halloween decor post next week.

Do you like to decorate for Halloween?  Which stores do give you the most inspiration?  Bonus if you catch the Star Wars item below!

Hi, I'm Erin. I am living back on the east coast after 15 years out west. Currently readjusting to humidity and mosquitos. I love to take pictures and read fashion magazines.... and to talk about nothing in particular (ok, and my dogs).
